New research from the International Federation of Football
History & Statistics (IFFHS) have seen Ronaldo included in the list of the 21
most successful top division goalscorers currently playing today.
The Phenomenon, who scored a double on his comeback for AC Milan recently to
take his tally to 226 goals from 310 league games, is ranked 15th on the list.
Ronaldo’s goal-per-game average of 0.72 is in fact bettered by only two other
players: Estonian forward Maksim Gruznov of JK Trans Narva (0.76) and fellow
Brazilian Mario Jardel, who is now playing for Australian club Newcastle Jets,
and who has an average of 0.85.
Ronaldo’s figures are arguably the most impressive given that his goals have
largely been scored in the top divisions of Italy, Spain and Holland. Moreover,
the IFFHS figures do not therefore include Ronaldo’s goals for Cruzeiro in the
Minas Gerais State Championship.
The IFFHS statistics only take into account of league goals scored in the top
flight football.
