Ronaldo’s presence was missed against Catania Calcio on
Wednesday night, where AC Milan found themselves short of firepower, and were
eliminated from the Coppa Italia.
With their Brazilian Number 99 rested, the Rossoneri drew 1-1, with Alberto
Paloschi putting them level in the second half after Juan Manuel Vargas had
opened the scoring for the home side early on.
Carlo Ancelotti’s line-up featured only three first-team regulars: Massimo Oddo,
Andrea Pirlo, and latterly Gennaro Gattuso, who made an appearance from the
substitutes’ bench midway through the second half.
AC Milan had needed to win by two clear goals to progress on aggregate. The draw
means that it is Catania who go into the next round 3-2 on aggregate. Carlo
Ancelotti’s team will now focus their attentions on the two main challenges, the
Champions League and Serie A.
Towards the end, both teams were reduced to 10 men as first Catania’s Andrea
Sottil, and then Gennaro Gattuso for the visitors were red-carded
