Portugal beat Brazil 2-0 in a friendly on Tuesday,
ending Dunga's unbeaten streak as manager of the South American side.
Simao Sabrosa, one of five second-half substitutes for Portugal, and Ricardo
Carvalho scored in the last eight minutes to give Dunga his first loss in six
games.
Brazil also used the second half at the Emirates Stadium in north London to
experiment with a handful of substitutes, resulting in some disjointed attacking
play.
Brazil had the best chances with Adriano making his first appearance for his
country since last year's World Cup, but its forwards often strayed offside or
failed to make the final pass.
Dunga, a World Cup-winning midfielder for Brazil in 1994, had been unbeaten
since taking over following Brazil's disappointing quarterfinal exit to France
at last year's World Cup.
Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is now unbeaten in two matches against his
native Brazil, which he led to a record fifth World Cup title in 2002.
Brazil, which beat Argentina 3-0 in September on its previous visit to Arsenal's
Emirates Stadium, was backed noisily by the majority in the crowd of 59,793
despite the absence of star striker Ronaldinho because of a calf muscle injury.
With Robinho also missing, Brazil left recalled forward Adriano on the bench and
started with Kaka supporting Fred and Rafael Sobis up front. Adriano came on as
a halftime substitute for Sobis. |
