Ronaldo may be out for
two to three weeks with torn muscle fibres in his right thigh, but
Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira is regarding it in a positive light.
Ronaldo was injured in Real Madrid's 1-1 draw with Real Sociedadon the
weekend.
The injury, Ronaldo's sixth this season, came two months before Brazil
kicks off the defence of its World Cup title in Germany.
"He will stop for two or three weeks, can recover and return in even
better condition," Parreira said in an interview with the Rio de Janeiro
daily O Globo.
Parreira is to announce Brazil's World Cup squad on May 22, and Ronaldo
- who played in the Cup in 1994, 1998 and 2002 - is widely expected to
be included.
Parreira suggested Ronaldo was in his plans for the Cup.
"The important thing is that his injury heals perfectly and that he
reports in shape," Parreira said.
The five-time champion plays Croatia, Australia and Japan in Group F.
Ronaldo, who had scored in each of his last four Spanish league games to
notch 100 goals for Madrid, was expected to miss matches against Getafe,
Malaga and possibly Osasuna.
With six matches to play, Madrid lies third, 11 points behind leader
Barcelona. |
