Kevin Kuranyi
kept up his remarkable scoring record under Jürgen Klinsmann to earn
Germany a 1-1 draw in the prestige friendly with the land of his birth,
Brazil, in Berlin on Wednesday evening.
A massive crowd of 75,000 packed the Olympiastadion, venue for the 2006
World Cup final, for the clash of world football's superpowers, and it
was the reigning World champions who hit the front early on with
Ronaldinho striking home a superb right-footed free-kick after just 9
minutes.
However, Kuranyi, scorer of three goals in Germany's win in Austria last
month, struck back for the World Cup hosts on 17 after good work from
Torsten Frings.
Edmilson, Ronaldo, and Michael Ballack were all booked in a competitive
encounter that produced no further goals. The creditable draw means
Germany coach Klinsmann remains undefeated since taking over.
Such a result at this stage of German recuperation is likely to have
far-reaching benefits for a country that must do without serious
competitive football until the World Cup finals tournament itself. |
